About Rand Technical Services

Rand Technical Services first commenced trading in 1988. Operating as a sole proprietary business activities included instrumentation systems, pumps, valves and filtration. During these early years the philosophy of “Value Added Technical Sales” was developed. This philosophy embraces the principle of ‘Engineered Solutions’. The customer requirement is evaluated on a fully technical basis and the most cost effective solution is devised and offered. This business principle has been refined and developed and is the basis of all technical sales to the present day.

Rand Technical Services was appointed as Southern African agents for Negretti Automation, (England) Dollinger Filtration, (USA & Ireland) and Aquametro (Switzerland). The company also undertook selected instrumentation engineering projects.

In 1993 the range of agencies and activities was reviewed. The process control business was becoming destructively competitive and Negretti Automation in England was in the process of evolving from systems manufacturers into systems integrators. In addition, the Negretti weighing systems were becoming expensive compared with local competition. As a consequence, Negretti activities were reduced to a minimum. A decision was taken to concentrate on specialised high technology “niche” markets.

Also at this time, the mechanical meter technology of Aquametro was becoming expensive and was being overtaken by the application of magnetic meter technology in the market. This agency was terminated.

The Dollinger range of high technology filtration products was proving successful and was later extended by the addition of the products of North American Filter Corporation (Nafco). Activities were concentrated on Process Filtration, Oil Mist Elimination and Inertial Spin Filters for dust extraction. The company has developed extensive expertise in these technologies and has carried out numerous successful projects for large high profile companies.

Additional product was added by the appointment of Rand Technical Services as Southern African agents and representatives for Norsk Hydro Electrolysers (Norway) (Now Hydrogen Technologies – Division of Statoil/Hydro) and Controle Analytique (Canada).

In 2000 RTS was appointed sole Southern African agents for Premier Combustion Services Ltd of St Albans, United Kingdom This company offers a full support and service for all makes of combustion equipment. RTS provides this support under licence to Sasol Secunda and other refineries.

During 2001/2002 RTS began to develop a presence in the gas analyser business. In 2002 RTS was appointed sole agents for Norsk Elektro Optikk of Norway. (NEO Monitors)

The range of products has recently been further expanded by the appointment of RTS as sole Southern African agents for Procon Engineering Ltd, (United Kingdom). Procon manufactures and supplies a range of state of the art boiler tube leakage detection systems and belt weighing equipment.

Current Operations

In 1990 Rand Technical Services was registered as a Close Corporation within South African law.

In 2006 Rand technical Services was converted to a Private Limited Company (PTY).

In common with modern trends in small business, the company operates on a minimum permanent staff basis. Offices are run utilising all available modern technologies, both for communications and administration.

An office and workshop is maintained in Secunda - Mpumahlanga.

The company has successfully exhibited technologies on the prestigious ElectraMining Exhibition which is reputed to be the largest exhibition of its type in the Southern Hemisphere and the second largest in the world. This event is held every two years and RTS exhibited in 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002 2004 and again at Electra Mining 2006. The company will be represented at Electra Mining 2008.
